doesn't apt-get, by default, install binaries?

for example:

sudo apt-get install PackageName

get's the binaries for PackageName and configures them properly. also, FinkCommander DOES have a nice GUI for selecting either source and/or binary installs, depending on which type is currently available.

OTOH,

sudo fink install PackageName

will download source and compile from scratch.

You may install binaries, if there are those available for your packages. Also, sometimes binaries are not as up-to-date as source packages.

I usually use FinkCommander for installing packages. It does have a
GUI for installing source and binaries. I don't know how do install
binaries with dselect or apt-get, but I am sure that it is possible.
The best way is to read the man pages.
