Also, if I'd just killed the process and restarted it, I wouldn't have been sure that the changes were correct (until the next reboot, at which point I would have long forgotten everything I've learned over the past two days...).
True. I have a personal aversion to rebooting, because for some reason postfix won't start automatically half the time and I have to do it manually.
