You'd need to find a package that's deeper down.
There may be such a thing--for example, KDE can be completely removed by removing arts-dev. I'll ask.
You can remove multiple packages with a "fink remove" or "apt-get remove", so that may be another option.

Suspecting the line indicating that 1 package would be removed, with a savings of 4KB, I did a "fink list -i gnome" that showed about 50 packages remaining with bundle-gnome nowhere to be found. So I did successfully remove bundle-gnome, but gnome remains.
I would think that given what appears to be a large push to bring gnome to OS X and fink, some of the developers/porters would have addressed this! Any other suggestions?

That's an excellent question. You can use "sudo apt-get remove <package>" to remove <package> and all of its dependencies, but I'm not sure if there's a package that they all depend on that you can remove to take out the whole bundle.
