That's only partially true. I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, ran on Leopard for a while, and then later from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Both of those paths ARE supported. It's a tricky call, whether to upgrade or do a clean install. I've got over 400 packages installed, and rebuilding all of them would take quite a while. On the other hand, I just spent the better part of the day debugging this problem. And svn's broken, too, for something that may or may not be related to the upgrade.
