Apples X11 loads as does gnome, but the windows are not within window frames, so windows can not be moved. The desktop is crippled. Does anyone else have or had this problem? Any help would be appreciated. I do not know whether I have every package that I need of gnome installed or this is simply a new problem. I do have bundle-gnome v.2.20.0-1 installed. I am running intel 64-bit on a MacBookPro. My kit is as follows: I don't use gnome-session, but rather start g-s-d manually in my x11 environment (in first xterm I open, I run /sw/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon, before running any gnome-related programs). Almost always, within a minute or so, CPU load goes to 100% on each core. If I kill -9 the g-s-d process and then re-run it, everythiing is fine for...well, I have x11 running for weeks at a time with no problem--no load-spikes, themes work properly, etc. I've never been able to track down the problem (and google is covered with similar error reports and no actual technical solution)...maybe gnome-session is catching the error and killing the run-away process? dan
