When I start gnome-session, gnome-settings-daemon quits. Apples X11

windows can not be moved. The desktop is crippled. Does anyone else
have or had this problem? Any help would be appreciated. I do not
know whether I have every package that I need of gnome installed or
this is simply a new problem. I do have bundle-gnome v.2.20.0-1
installed. I am running intel 64-bit on a MacBookPro. My kit is as
follows:

I don't use gnome-session, but rather start g-s-d manually in my x11
environment (in first xterm I open, I run
/sw/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon, before running any
gnome-related programs). Almost always, within a minute or so, CPU load
goes to 100% on each core. If I kill -9 the g-s-d process and then
re-run it, everythiing is fine for...well, I have x11 running for weeks
at a time with no problem--no load-spikes, themes work properly, etc.
I've never been able to track down the problem (and google is covered
with similar error reports and no actual technical solution)...maybe
gnome-session is catching the error and killing the run-away process?
