I decided that my problem with the gnome-settings-daemon had to be either a
config problem which I could not find, or more likely a bad compile in some
file. Therefore I trashed my /sw file and started all over. Now, we have the
option of compiling any 64-bit programs and using a 32-bit for everything else.
I don't remember that option when I built fink on this machine in November
2009. Well, a couple of days later I have a working Gnome system, and there
does not seem to be any problems. I did find that running rootless did not
seem to work correctly. I get failures with alerts like: The panel encountered
a problem while loading "OAFIID_WindowList Applet" as well as several others of
like nature having to do with windows. As I said, I am not having any problems
with the full screen gnome-session.
