Sorry, I overlooked Martin's patch (and I don't know enough about the fink building system). I guess Martin's patch requires modifying the building script for fribidi (any hint on how to do that, so that I can try the patch here?). After all, I'm changing my mind: if modifying the touch command fixes the installation, then maybe the Y2K38 problem is indeed the cause of the side effects it generates (e.g. on mplayer).
