Consider "Crime in England and Wales 2001/2002: Supplementary Volume". From
"Table 1.03 Offences currently (Note 1) recorded as homicide by apparent
method of killing and sex of victim England and Wales 1991 to 2001/02" and
"Table 1.03" from Crime in England and Wales 2002/2003, we see the recorded
"shooting" deaths displayed below (I've included the pertaining notes at the
bottom).

I don't see any signs of decrease in the use of firearms for homicides from
the ban of handguns by Britain in 1996.

I'd be very interested to see someone make the case that the ban was a
success because of these changes in "shooting" homicides.

1. As at 8 October 2002; figures are subject to revision as cases are dealt
with by the police and by the courts, or as further information becomes
available.
3. These figures may not agree with those in Chapter 4 because (a) the
firearms figures include cases where the firearm was used as a blunt
instrument and (b) homicide figures include shooting by crossbows and are
compiled at a later date and take into account the results of police and
court decisions.
