>They also say that most of the weapons used by street gangs come from >China through Mexico, not from domestic gun shows.
All the grabbers (even Obama, last night) refer to a phoney statistic generated from gun traces. Just as the Tiahrt Amemdment was necassary to stop the phoney US "crime gun" statistics, guns traced by the BATF for Mexican authorities are _not_ a proper sample of guns used by the waring drug cartels. The US agreed to trace guns for Mexican authorites. But Mexican authorites often know that a specific gun did not come through the US (e.g. machine guns, models never imported in the US, etc). So those guns don't get traced. Of the guns for which a trace is requested by Mexico, the BATF report that 9 out of 10 had originally been sold in the US. That DOES NOT mean that 90% of guns used in the drug cartel wars come from the US. _______________________________________________ To post, send message to [email protected] To subscribe, unsubscribe, change options, or get password, see http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/firearmsregprof Please note that messages sent to this large list cannot be viewed as private.
