That sounds like a good plan... with every car, it will have it's own flaws
and downfalls... so I'd say your ahead of the game knowing where you stand
with this car. Like you said, you can finish it off and make it the car you
have always wanted. If you were looking to sell in about 5 months from now
(depending on the economy) you would get a much better price range...

I bet they replaced the grills instead of restoring them at some point and
didn't pay attention to the details. Luckily you can get the Chrome Hockey
Sticks for the centers of the grills and will be good to go... It's all the
details like this that really finish off a nice car like that!

I have no idea how the grills arent for a 400. Everything else matches
the PHS docs except the block. This car was restored by Strand classics
in Georgetown, SC. Although they do nice paint work, I would never hire
them again in the future. As far as the grills, they may have been replaced
at some time in the past. Really all I wanted was a nice looking driver
with a big motor, A/C and a 4spd. I have dreamed of owning a Verdoro green
67-68 Firebird for the last 20 years. After looking for one for close to a
year, I found a shop that promised to build a "like new" driver level
restoration on this 68. $26,000 with additional cost for the vintage air
and disc brake conversion. They tore down pretty much everything on the
car and did replace the top, redo the seats and carpet, got just about
everything working. New tires, new paint, new/aftermarket bumpers. rebuilt
the rear with a 3.55 posi. Anything that was not in good shape was replaced
or repaired. There is no rust. Overall a nice car.

The problem is that some of the panels don't fit well and they are several
hundred miles away. Other shops tell me that if they repair the front fender,
matching the paint will be next to impossible. I like the car but I have a
whole laundry list of stuff that should have been done and now I have to have
done because Strand Classics won't return my calls.

After all of this, I have found a really nice 68 verdoro green bird for sale
near me with a 428 and nicer condition than mine. That's why I was considering
selling. I think I will probably keep this car, fix all the problems and spend
the next couple of years making it into the car I want.

Thanks for all your comments and support. The internet is so great for
bringing people together that have the same interests and want to help one
another.
Thanks Geoff.
