I used to work at a stereo shop, and the typical route for building a speaker
pod like you are describing is to make a bracket to hold the speaker at the
angle you want, usually out of wood, and then form the rest of the pod with
cloth. Paint the cloth with a couple coats of fiberglass resin. If the angles
aren't too extreme you can then cover the whole thing with vinyl. I suppose you
could take the whole dash pad core, build up the pod like you want it, and then
get it covered in the material of your choice. I did a quick google search for
'fiberglass speaker enclosure' and it turned up several sites explaining the
process.

Thanks to everyone for the wiper washer nozzle and rear license plate
bracket info.

I have a new question. I bought a pair of Infinity 3.5-inch speakers that
I'd like to install in the front of my '68 Coupe. I'd rather not hack the
kick panels or the door panels. I saw a Camaro (I think it was) on
Barrett-Jackson that showed the speakers embedded in the dash pad at the
base of each "A" pillar. I really like that solution, but I think they used
a custom dash pad, and mine is stock.

Has anyone on this list solved this problem before? I converted my car from
an automatic to a 4-speed, and it currently doesn't not have a console (I
kind of dig the sans console look).
