First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... I did exactly the same about two weeks ago and had the same problem. My fix was soaking the bolt in penetrating oil followed by a 3 foot Pipe extension on my 3/4" ratchet - that did the trick and broke-loose The bolt. Hope it works for you. Ike 68 Coupe(s)

My '67 is completely apart and as I was disassembling my front brake assemblies I ran into a problem. I have drum brakes and cannot get the spindle separated from the backing plate. I have the entire drum and spindle assembly on the workbench so it is easy to work on and most everything came apart just fine. But....there is a large "pin", more than an inch in diameter, at the top bolt where the ends of the brake shoes meet. I cannot get this separated from the spindle. All of the bolts are removed and I have only managed to get this thing to move about 1/16th of an inch. Any suggestions? I would definitely like to upgrade to disc brakes but that will have to wait. It's one of those pesky budget thingys!! Thanks, Ronnie Tadlock No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG.
