If my memory is correct, I had to pull or pry the black plastic button from the flat metal shaft. You can put some needle nose vise-grips on the metal shaft close to the plastic button and use a screwdriver to pry it off. It can be a bit of a tug, but it will come off. This is, of course, after you've removed the front face plate.

Hey Stu,

How hard is it to change the buttons on the radios? I asked this on the board a few weeks back but didn't get any answers. I have a radio from a 70 mid-size I'm told will fit my 69 (just with the shorter buttons) and a 68 with chrome buttons. I wanted to swap the buttons on the two.
