Its not true that "no one makes a radio that fits"...
Its VERY pricey, but check these out. I know a few people that have bought
from this company for their various old cars, and other than the steep
price, everyone is very happy with them.
For the firebird, you will have the buy the repop firebird knobs (cause this
one comes with camaro knobs), but it looks exact, fits perfect, and works
great...

May be out of your price range, I dunno... but its an option. I will be
getting one soon once I have the cash saved up for it. Right now, I have an
original non-working 67 Delco in the dash to fil the hole. I want the
repop cause I want to be able to play my IPOD through it.

69 radios are unique to 69 firebirds. The buttons are longer than any
other OEM radio. No one makes a radio that fits without cutting the bar.
I got an AM/FM Stereo radio from a 72 Grand Prix. I took it and a stock
AM 69 radio apart and put the longer buttons on the GP radio. It's not
really correct, but few people know the difference.

Does anyone have any idea how good or bad a non-FB AM radio from a GTO
will work in a FB. I understand that for the 60 FB the pushbuttons were
longer. Are the shorter buttons something that can be lived with? I'm
mainly wanting any radio (non-working is better since it will be cheaper)
that will fit the original opening without cutting any of it. I was going
to send it to a one of the radio places that puts new insides in them to
make them a modern AM/FM stereo. Or failing that, does anyone know of a
new radio that actually fits the opening? One place I talked to said their
would fit if I cut the bar out but I hate to do that.
