My car was off the road for about 2 years in my garage. The little rubber lines from the sending unit hardlines to the framerail hardlines just started leaking one day. I mean enough to put a puddle on the floor. The hoses were drycracked. Maybe a possibility? I smelled gas while driving too, never could figure it out. Since I was missing one of those floor (oval) metal covers that might explain that too. Just a thought.
