I glanced at a show on tv last week where they were soda blasting a pickup truck, and it appeared the soda was dissolved in water before being sprayed from the gun. They claimed it would also leave a film over the bare metal surface that would prevent any flash rust until they were ready to do a final cleaning to primer it.
