You're rigth Larry. Your set up is completely different, i.e. a lot longer with the chains. I used only 7 links left and right with no "center" chain. My garage ceiling is only 7' so I don't have the luxury of going high.
I took a look at a Tremec install website and they showed the shifter matching up with the existing hole so now I'm wondering what the heck. Maybe I got the motor mounts in the wrong position or maybe the 500R is a little different. Something to check.
