Just to be sure, I'd get hold of a chassis manual and see how far apart the
rear body mounts are supposed to be and start from there. If they are indeed to
far apart, a ratchet strap should do the trick.

Yes, you should be able to pull the subframe end in, especially if they are
spread farther than they are supposed to be. Just obviously loosen the body
mount bolts.

New problem: I got the engine/tranny in and cut out the hole for the Tremec
shifter base. All is well with that. However, my cross member is about 1/4"
too short left to right. The driver's side has two fixed holes and the
passenger side has two slotted holes. There's not enough slot, i.e. I would
need to
pull the subframe in about 1/4" to be able to mount. I compared my old cross
member with the new one for the Tremec and they are about the same.

Anyone ever had this problem? Can you squeeze the subframe together about
1/4" at the rearward ends? BTW, I looked at the rearward subframe mounts and
they were off center, i.e. squeezing the subframe in a little would get them
closer to center.

Thanks,
Sheen
