First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Jim,
You definitely need a MIG welder to thinner metal (body panels, thin wire, etc). Small MIG welders are also usually good up to 3/8" steel. Not sure how good the Harbor Freight model is, but as long as you can return it, it won't hurt to try it. But, the rule of thumb in welders is; you do get what you pay for. The more expensive welders are definitely better than the cheaper models. Also, check craigslist.org in your area to see if anyone else has one for sale. For the little bit of welding I do, which is very little, I've been using an old "arc welder", 220 Volt large box with big rotating handle. Most of the time I use small flux coated rods at maybe 30 to 70 amps. Harbor Frieght has a "regularly $200" flux welder on sale for $99. Would that be more useful and verstitle for welding stuff? Especially thin stuff. I had to repair my old Mustang bucket seat shell with my arc welder and it was tough to keep from simply burning holes everywhere I struck an arc due to the thinness of the metal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Submissions to Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Unsubscribe from Firebird-L: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Help: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/Firebird-L.html> Classifieds: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/ubb/> Owner Pictures: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/show/> Donations: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/store/cart.mv?999999> FGF Merchandise: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/store> ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Submissions to Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Unsubscribe from Firebird-L: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Help: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/Firebird-L.html> Classifieds: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/ubb/> Owner Pictures: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/show/> Donations: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/store/cart.mv?999999> FGF Merchandise: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/store>
