Chris, This is the same starter, before and after... the only assumption that I have is that the manual and automatic starters are slightly different, but I HIGHLY doubt that is the case.
Sounds like fun times on the BMW, I'm pulling the head on my '95 M3 this coming week for a headgasket issue... it was my fault... What model was it? I've got lots of parts if you need anything cheap!
