First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... My understanding is that the gap is determined largely by the spark voltage available. In the original factory ignition the higher the rpms the lower the available voltage because the dwell time was less (points where closed for shorter amont of time the faster the rpm). So they needed to keep the gap down to a size that could be jumped by the15,000 available volts. If you put a HEI or other high energy system in you should be able to run a bigger gap. The spark doesn't happen till the voltage gets high enough to jump it. Too small a gap and the spark happens before maximum possible voltage is reached. Too big a gap and you don't get any spark :-( If you are using factory ignition then you should gap it to factory gap. If you are using HEI then you should use wider gap, perhaps 0.43.

Thanks for all the advice on fuel system priming. I have 6x-4 heads and I'm using NGK R5674-8 (5667) plugs as recommended by Butler. They are gapped at 20 thousandths. Manual says 35 but of course those are different heads and different plugs. Does anyone know the gap spec for my set up? THanks, Sheen _________________________________________________________________ Invite your mail contacts to join your friends list with Windows Live Spaces.
