Let me try to reply again. I don't know why my replies get so jumbled up when?I
reply from my Blackberry, unless it's a format issue.

The steering parts difference could very well be an engine issue. Recently I
was looking at rack and pinion set-ups for first?generation Camaros and they
stated they would not work on Firebirds which used a Pontiac engine.

I know that when I was shopping for the parts I found that the tie rod ends
(either it was inner or outer, don't recall which) were different on the
firebirds then on the camaros in 69.? I'm wondering if the pontiac engine hangs
lower and requires slightly different geometry for the linkage.

As I recall, the center link, end links, pitman arm and idler arm are different
on manual cars and power steering cars. I remember converting my 69 coupe to
manual (for 1/4 mile use) and that was the case but I don't recall which was
which on the idler arm since it's been many years since I did the conversion.

nice shiney new idler arm but when I went to pull the old one discovered the
original setup has the ball end as part of the center link.? My new idler arm
had the ball end as part of it. I checked several sources and the idler arm I
bought is listed as correct on most sites but a couple sites show another one
and it's like my old one.? Anyone know what's up with the different idler
arms??? My 69 is number 500 off the assembly line so maybe there was some
holdover in parts from the 68's????? Or maybe it's really the idler arm for a
Camaro????
