I think I have had something similar. If the door is not aligned too well, the lock is forced to the stud on the frame which somehow 'locks' the mechanism. First try and lift the door up or push it down and try the lock again. If this fails you can try to pop out the door lock; turn the glass down see how the lock clip is located and 'slide' it off the lock so it can be removed. Now you have some more space to work your way to the lock mechanism. If you're lucky and pull the right rods it might unlock.

Is the door panel removed so you can get to the latch mechanism from
inside.  It could be the locking rod is not disengaging the lock
mechanism or maybe the latch is just stiff.  Try having someone push
from the inside while pulling from the outside.
