Hi just joined on here,

I had a prob. Recently where my door suddenly would not open.

I tried the push me pull me option, but found that there is a little
return spring on the latch mechanism approx. 1/2" diameter that had
snapped and was in the bottom of the door.

It is part no. 40 on the door mechanism list.

I made a new sprin and it works fine now.

Cheers

Brent,

Fortunately, yes, the door panel is off. I guess I will try the push me
pull you method.

Thanks,
Bobby

Bobby,

Is the door panel removed so you can get to the latch mechanism from
inside. It could be the locking rod is not disengaging the lock
mechanism or maybe the latch is just stiff. Try having someone push
from the inside while pulling from the outside. Here is a link to a
drawing of the inner mechanism.

Folks,

I haven't worked on the 'bird for a while, but I am getting ready to
start up again. I have a problem that has gone unsolved for months. I
bought a new passenger door shell and door latch. With the help of a
couple of friends (believe me, it takes three people to install a door),
I installed it on my car.

We aligned the door fairly well. It's good enough to hand it over to
the body shop anyway. When I closed the door it made the typical
door-closing sound.

Guess what? Door won't open. I use the internal door handle to actuate
the door latch. Nothing. I use my finger to activate the door latch.
Nothing.

Short of removing the passenger fender to get at the door hinges, what
can I do? Is there some magic release button I can hit?

I appreciate any advice you can give me.

Bobby
