First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Bobby,
I had the same thing when I replaced my wiper motor. Turns out, I had the connector on the side of the motor plugged in upside down, so the circuit immediately grounded out. Flip the plug. :) Thomas -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bobby Speake Sent: Tuesday, January 19, 2010 6:23 PM To: 'First Generation Firebird-L' Subject: RE: [FGF] Wiper woes First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Hey folks. I still haven't solved my wiper problems. I admit I didn't do much over the holidays, but I am back on task now. Here's a summary: I bought a new wiper motor (remanufactured) from AutoZone. I bolted it up to the firewall, but did not attach it to the transmission. I noted that it already had the brass ground strap attached to one of the grommets. I replaced the 15A fuse, powered up the system, and turned the wiper motor switch. The fuse immediately popped. Arrrggghh. My neighbor showed up about this time, so we started kicking around ideas. The motor had to be grounding itself somewhere. So we removed the motor from the firewall and laid it on a towel with the wires still attached. I replaced the fuse, energized the system, and turned the switch. The motor jumped to life. I had high and low speeds. WTF (why the face)? So my neighbor put duct tape around any potential surface (this is temporary) that could contact the firewall. We also removed the washer pump completely to eliminate it as a possibility. We installed the motor along with the foam gasket onto the firewall. Didn't need to replaced the fuse this time. Powered up the system, turned the switch - click - popped fuse. So I had an idea. Remove the bolt/screw holding the motor onto the firewall from the grommet containing the ground strap. We replaced the fuse, powered it up, and turned the switch. Again the motor spun happily. So we thought we would wade in a little deeper. My neighbor attached the transmission to the motor's output shaft without changing anything else. Fuse popped. At this point we just threw up our hands and called it a day. What am I missing? Do I need some special type of fasteners? The switch is brand new, and it seems like it's working correctly.
