I also never liked, that Mozilla replaced the status bar by the
(initially hidden) add-on bar, but the FWG needed to adjust to that.
But as mentioned before it's not really hard to move the icon back to
its ancestral place.

You can bring the old icon back by setting
extensions.firebug.showStatusIcon to true.
Didn't try YSlow with the new version yet, but I'll have a look.
