All that sounds as if it would be better to convince the devtools team to integrate firebug features and UI into devtools and use the manpower of fb team for consultancy only. To build fb3 on top of devtools and do all the coding work yourself seems like a waste of qualification and knowledge.
Firebug team pioneered developer tools. They deserve more than only correcting and working around the incompetence of Mozilla developers.
