Hello, I'm trying to determine what would be the best (and most appropriate) OS platform for a firewall. I've looked through several months of past postings on this mailing list as well as other URLs to see if I could find any clear direction on this issue, but I haven't seen any. I'm going between NT and a UNIX variant. I would characterize my findings as 'UNIX is more secure than NT but NT is fast approaching the level of security offered by UNIX'. I've seen recommendations to avoid NT but backed up by generalizations, rather than example. Similarly, I've seen that UNIX has been suggested as a more secure platform, but again, only backed up by generalization. I'd like to hear if my interpretation of the NT v UNIX issue is shared by others and would I be making a mistake if I went with NT. I'm leaning towards NT because, if the two OSes are truly close in their level of security, it would be wise for me to go with NT since we'll have other NT servers on site and I'd like to restrict the number of different servers.
