Just a note before I begin saying that I mostly deal with NT so that is the bias! I pretty much agree with your sentiments, NT and Unix to me seem to be able to offer a similar degree of security, depending on how the box is configured. I don't think Windows NT is any easier to secure than Unix and in some ways is a lot more difficult (stuffing around with registry settings for example) and this is an important factor to consider. If you have experienced Windows NT administrators that know what they are doing then stay with NT, just be aware that the GUI in NT is not buying any real simplification in maintenance. Neither is better they are just different. IMHO the decision to go NT or Unix is really a management decision (unless you want the protection provided by secure operating systems which are usually a variant of Unix) - what do my people have experience in and what are the issues if I introduce new operating systems onto my network. Hope this helped. > Hello, > I'm trying to determine what would be the best (and most appropriate) OS > platform for a firewall.
