SSH is a secure shell program which uses one single port to establish a
crypted session with a remote system. See http://www.ssh.org
You can also ftp thru a ssh session with this two-step operation:
>From your.localhost.com:
% ssh -L2233:your.ftphost.com:21 your.ftphost.com
>From anywhere on the internet:
% ftp your.localhost.com 2233
you'll be able to gain ftp access to your.ftphost.com thru your.localhost.com
that way.
