KDE, for example, binds Alt-F4 to close window by default, and Alt+various other keys to various other actions. I suppose it was inaccurate to say that X11 does it. Rather, when I used Linux, it seemed to be common for X programs to use Alt/Meta, while terminal programs used Ctrl. I could, of course, be mistaken, as I've been using OS X for over a year now. -- -Nick Pilon
