Forgot to add that one of the reasons I am really surprised at the difference in performance of the same SWF content on PPC versus PSP is because I believe the PPC I am using has a very similar processor to the PSP (312MHz vs 333MHz).
Then I found out the PSP processor is itself neutered to help with the battery life issues Sony encountered prior to launch.
