if you are animating a hand, i'd recommend breaking the hand down into it's component parts - fingers (even sections of fingers if you need the control), hands, arms etc. That way you can motion tween that stuff rather than trying to get shape tweens to do what you want - they're more for changing one primitive shape into another which is why they go horribly wrong when anything more complicated is thrown at them
