MM sent out notifications about 2-3 weeks ago letting most know they weren't accepted during that round.  There was some unhappiness on other lists because it wasn't clear how many were accepted (versus applied) and why people seemingly experienced enough to be included weren't.  A number of MM staff were contacted and a few blogs were posted pointing out how selections were made.

The notice that went out yesterday was much better written.  It included more information on how the beta process would work and why people may not have been included.  While I know we would all like to be on it, the numbers are still very very small (something on the order of 100 accepted out of thousands of applicants).  Likewise, they cited a number of good reasons to limit the numbers for a while.

Sorry if you weren't accepted this round, very few were.  At least the explanations have been improved and they are legitimate reasons :-)

Maybe in another few rounds...

(MM:  thanks for the much better explanation this time around)
