Feel free to watch my MAX presentation on Architecting Flex Applications, there’s a whole discussion of the available data access techniques including when and why to use them.

Linked off my blog:

http://weblogs.macromedia.com/mchotin (preso is http://macromedia.max.breezecentral.com/ra304w/)

Just skip to the slides that sound interesting.

From the FAQ at the bottom of this email, a compressed, binary format.  When
you send ActionScript objects over the wire, they are serliaized into binary
packets called AMF.

Similiar to how you send SOAP messages, only it's not String XML, but
smaller (usually) binary messages.

What is AMF if you please?

Thanks - I'll get up to speed fast, I promise; I
really roll once I get fam. with a tech. (i'm a bottom
up type so it takes longer for me to roll, but when I
do I master things).
