yes there is, using the new Flash Player (coming soon) you will be able to do Flex framework caching. So your final SWF will contain only your code and none of the framework, which is what is happening now. This is also good if you have many app being deployed from the same domain. You will have to look into the docs to see more details. That dropped about 95kb off of the file size ~ down to 160kb. However, it is still pretty bloated. Again, removing all of the component code, and just publishing the basic application file code, drops 10kb off of the fie size down to 150kb. Which means the component is only 10kb. IMO, that seems like a lot of overhead.
