Bill, We're in the process of using a new system for tracking software defects. It will allow us to triage the defects and plan what release they will show up in. I'm mainly responding with the defect ID so that I can search email if we need more detail on the particular defect. We will also be pulling in the bug tracker 4-digit bug reports into this system also. When we issue release notes, we will likely put both sets of identifiers in the "what's fixed" section.
It's not ideal for us to have two systems, but at this point each serves a critical purpose -- the bug system online lets individuals enter bug reports directly and the defect system allows us to schedule which will be done in each release, do estimation and release reporting. I would like to make it as easy as possible for you to get defects to us. Today there are really two ways I know of: 1) you can mention a problem here, have it discussed and then if one of us sees it is an issue, we will enter it and make a comment that we've entered a bug report; or 2) you can enter the bug report directly.
