There are hams from different parts of the world contributing to its design. After all, it is the outgrowth of experimental work at TAPR more than an attempt to create a commercial product to compete with Flex or any other commercial manufacturer of FCC-type-accepted hardware. BTW, the radios from Apache Labs are NOT FCC-type-accepted. When you buy one and import it, you are on the hook for what it does. You need to ensure that the radio is operating within the bands and that the emissions are consistent with best engineering practices. > Do I care that there is other hardware that has specifications close to > the 6700? I am looking forward to receiving my 6700 but I sure as heck don't expect to throw my 6700 into a backpack and drag it around with me. OTOH, I *will* do that with my ANAN-10. I also expect the 6700 to provide better performance. But the performance of the ANAN-10 is quite good and I am happy with it. I also have an Elecraft K2-100, an Icom IC-M710, and I am shopping for a clean Collins KWM-2. I am not voting which is "better" as I use them all for different things.
