Well, the RG in 172RG is retractable gear, while the N in 172N is just a version number. Therefore, the RG panel also has a gear indicator, a gear handle, and (because it has a variable pitch prop) a prop knob and a MP gauge. Aircraft with fixed props rarely have an MP gauge because they cost money and are not required by the FAA for those acft. As I remember, I also provided panel photos of 6360D for comparison. As far as the DME goes, a basic 172 is VFR only and most of the avionics are missing. For old IFR aircraft, they had NAV (without flipflop radios) and an ADF (as I remember) but no DME. This is very hard to fly IFR. These days, basically all serious IFR (i.e. no just training) aircraft have DME and thus file as /A ... or at least a VFR GPS for verification. So, in conclusion, we need to decide what age the 172 is (as an aircraft) and whether its owner has performed any upgrades beyond the Cessna-installed original avionics. This just corresponds to a variety of panels to choose, so it isn't a forced choice, but does determine the new-user default. Most people will expect what they'd get on a rental aircraft, which is why I originally recommended putting in markers and DME and no GPS. _______________________________________________ Flightgear-devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.flightgear.org/mailman/listinfo/flightgear-devel
