The optimization is the key.  FLY! uses a 2D cockpit (at least, FLY! 1
does), and the panel is blurry and hard to read on my 1600x1200 LCD
because it's optimized for 1024x768.

With typical user-level technology, we might end up configuring things
like this: in her left hand, the user holds the joystick or yoke to
control the plane (possibly assisted by rudder pedals); in her right
hand, she holds the mouse to control the view direction and zoom
level.  Fancier users can buy things they strap on their heads to
control the view, but my family would laugh at me if I did that (I
don't even have the nerve to buy a yoke).
