Your suggestion has been on many peoples' wishlists for a while, and I
like the idea of it.  With this additional functionality, we could do
this:

  $ cd $FG_BASE/Aircraft && ln -s $FG_EXTRAS/Aircraft/ Extras/

FG would traverse the Aircraft/Extras/ directory, but `cvs update` would
ignore it (I think).

This would solve Norman's problem and still keep the aircraft
developers' jobs easy.
