This seems to be correct. After reading a lot of articles on the OpenGL lighting implementation material defaults should actually be:
I lied.
The page I got the values from wasn't all that clear after all.
I've updated the default values gain, and scaled the light tables to OpenGL default lighting values.
I must say, I'm impressed.
You now see the height differences much better and even a comparison between a p51d cockpit from before and after the changes showed about the same (if not better) results.
Please try this out and give your opinions.
What needs to be done now is adjust the defaults an a per materials basis.
