You are dreaming if you think that there is any way you can interpolate a low res data set to any meaningful higher resolution. Think of the points as circles or eillpses whose areal extent is determined by the scale for which the data was constructed and all you know is that the 'real point' lies somewhere within. There is no shortcut to be found here, spend your energies looking for higher res data sets to splice in to the vmap0 locally !
