YASim doesn't care, actually.  It reports the output lat/lon/alt value
as the location of the coordinate origin of the airframe (that is, the
0,0,0 referenced by all the coordinates it finds in the aircraft
definition file).

I've always suggested the nose as an obvious and hard-to-mistake
location, but there's nothing in code to enforce that.  If the
aircraft lacks a well-defined nose, then we can pick something else;
the only requirement is that all the FDM configurations and 3D models
for a single aircraft agree. There's not need to unify conventions for
across all possible aircraft.
