I did _think_ I understood what you were
saying, though, and still wish I understood your approach. 

I think it better that I scrape up some time somehow and implement
the meta file approach.  It's easier to show than to tell -- especially
to one not familiar with IG software.  What you are planning will
correct (what I believe is a major) problem.  That, right now, is
more important.
The other bad part is I'm really late in the game.  It has only been
reciently that I've begun to view FlightGear as more than just a
video game...
