It's not just the EU, I'm having this problem in the US. I tried to get a surveying compass with tritium illumination, and found that it's banned in the US as well. This is a big deal since electric illumination can seriously deviate a magnetic compass. I don't think you can get it for non-military gun sights anymore either. Grrr.
