Ooh, it's a bona fide flame war. :) Look, the points wasn't that plib is great. The point wasn't that OSG has no advantages. The point was that we've taken working software and regressed its feature set pretty severely, and that's a serious problem that needs to be fixed now. Stopping development on other parts of the system simply because you want to advocate OSG over plib isn't acceptable IMHO.
If it's not ready yet for public consumption by the other developers (and, judging especially from the folks on IRC, it isn't) then it needs to live in a development branch until it *is* ready. This is too much, too soon, and with too little warning. > > + I don't like the OSG build system at all. > > Well every one of us should be allowed to have personal preferences, > don't we ? ;-) Stop flaming. You cut out all the text where I explained *why* I don't like the build system. Building out of tree, en/disabling shared library support, and installing into a custom prefix aren't "personal preferences." They are concrete software features, ones that I happen to use to build FlightGear, and ones that are lacking from OSGs makefiles. There are other nits too, like the fact that it wants to pass either "-g" or "-O2" to gcc, and not both, or the fact that "make static" only works for the example programs. > Certain things in FlightGear simply don't work with the latest PLIB > release My point was that FlightGear will build and run successfully with a released version of Plib that you download from www.plib.org. This is not true of OSG. There is currently *no* version of OSG you can get from www.openscenegraph.com that will work with FlightGear. This is especially problematic because OSG ships only as shared libraries. If you happen to have a release version already installed on your system, then you can't build or run FlightGear *at* *all* without hacking with your runtime linker configuration. > I accept that you don't like the move to OSG maybe simply because > it's not your invention, I'll see your ad hominem and raise you three: You just don't like YASim!
