This might not be 'help'..., but certainly same thing happens here:
iBook G4 with ATI Mobility Radeon 9200
I tested both 0.9.10 PPC / Universal. Sun itself seems rendered same
on two versions.
But surrounding light ('flare'?) doesn't seem rendered correctly.
