It depends on the purpose. For piloting purposes, which is
where most users are coming from, two is plenty.

I can see making another mode, to serve another purpose, such
as debugging joysticks, and /four/ digits would be worthwhile
in that case. It would be simple to put a mode-change button
on the existing popup.

Not "everyone" else.

I'll make you a deal: You don't mock my motives, and I won't
mock yours.

Skilled programmers double the i and triple the n so that the
variable name can be _searched for_ with much-reduced risk of
finding it as a substring in other words and symbols.

And why should anyone care much about int ii, anyway?
   a) Primarily, I try to do what is best for the user community.
I'm pretty sure users don't care whether we use ii as a variable
    name or not.
   b) Secondarily, and as a distant corollary to item (a), I try
to do what is best for the developer community. I don't think
anyone is seriously harmed by a variable named ii. Those who
want to tolerate such names will find a way to tolerate them.
Those who want to find something to snipe at will always be
    able to find a target; that's a problem, but I didn't cause
that problem, I am not able to solve that problem, and I won't
    pretend to try.

Let me also point out that the word "gremlin" is in the dictionary.
Its primary meaning explains exactly the purpose of gremlins.nas.

If anybody has constructive suggestions as to a better name, I
will be happy to consider them. Non-constructive sniping will
be ignored.
