I'm actually member of the choir that you are preaching to. As I said: cross-platformness is a major project goal that I fully support. My response was exclusively referring to the occasionally stated, and most likely wrong thesis that almost all fgfs users are really running MS Windows, and only a minority one of the Unices. I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 50/50, but we have AFAIK no serious base for estimation.
